A new study published in the journal Nutrition Research found that blueberry powder improves immune and cardiovascular functioning. During the study, participants received a powder equivalent to 250 grams (about half a pound) of blueberries per day. After six weeks, researchers observed a 4% increase in the immune system’s natural killer (NK) cells. They also observed heart benefits, in particular a reduction in arterial stiffness. While other research has shown that blueberries have a wide range of positive health effects, such as reducing the risk of cognitive decline, this is the first study to directly examine blueberry consumption and NK cell count in humans.

In today’s news, chiropractic care can be extremely beneficial to patients who suffer from diabetes. A chiropractor will utilize a more holistic approach that addresses the cause of the disease rather than just treating the symptoms.

Diabetes has become one of the fastest-growing diseases in America. Experts predict that by 2025, 1 in every five Americans will suffer from diabetes, and 1 in 3 for the generation after that. This is mostly attributed to lifestyle and dietary causes. Americans tend to lead more sedentary lifestyles and consume foods that are loaded with processed sugar.

So how can a chiropractor help? With a focus on healthy eating and lifestyle, a chiropractor can advise patients to mitigate their risk for diabetes by eating a healthy diet low in processed sugar and high in nutrient dense, high fiber foods. They can also help their patients with weight management and treat them for any injuries or pain that might get in the way of maintaining a regular exercise routine.

The bottom line is, diabetes is a preventable and choosing a healthy lifestyle is critical in mitigating the risk of developing the disease. A chiropractor is going to be able to help patients facilitate that through nutritional guidance and regular chiropractic care.

Remember you and your family can be as healthy as can be, and it’s never too soon to start receiving chiropractic care. Visit your chiropractor regularly and make sure your nervous system is functioning 100%.

In today’s news, studies show that cancer is often caused by lifestyle choices, even more than by genetic factors. Making healthy lifestyle choices could prevent or eliminate cancer in 90% of cases, research shows. Diet and exposure to sunlight, for example, could dramatically reduce the chances of getting cancer.

Factors like diet, to sunlight, cigarettes and disease, play a far bigger role in fueling cancer than dodgy DNA. In fact, 80 – 90 percent of cancer cases could be prevented if all these triggers could be avoided. Healthy habits like not smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, eating a healthy diet and cutting back on alcohol dramatically reduce the risk of developing the disease.

Scientists are divided about how much cancer is caused by what we do and how much is unavoidable. Some research shows that most cases are caused by errors in DNA that are generated at random as the body ages and its cells divide. Therefore, the cumulative effect of random mistakes in genes is to blame for the disease rather than poor lifestyle choices.

Other recent studies came to the opposite conclusion, suggesting that cancer incidence is far too high to be explained by simple mutations in cell division alone.
If random mutations were to blame, there would be far fewer cases of cancer than there are. While luck plays a role, environmental factos such as diet, alcohol, cigarettes, sunburn, some viruses, pollution are more likely the cause in many cases.

Remember making healthy lifestyle choices will reduce your chance of getting cancer.
