Sciatica pain refers to pain caused by compression or irritation of one of the spinal nerves. Some of the symptoms are tingling in the legs or pins and needle sensation in the leg, pain down one leg, lower back pain, tension and pain deep in the buttocks, numbness or tingling in the leg, foot, or toes, as well as weakness anywhere along the pathway of the Sciatic nerve. 

Sciatica is a pain that is experienced in the lower back and behind the thigh. It also radiates towards the knee. This pain can be excruciating and due to its severity people find it difficult to perform physical activities. 

Causes: 

1. Sciatic a most commonly occurs as a result of a lumbar disc directly pressing on the nerve. Inflammation of the sciatic nerve can give rise to the symptoms of sciatica. 

Symptoms of Sciatica: 

1. Discomfort along the sciatic nerve pathway, going down into the lower back, buttock, back of the thigh, and/or calf. 

2. Numbness in the leg. 

3. Paraesthesia : A strange feeling which results in tingling, pins and needles and a burning sensation too. 

4. Weakness: Lack of strength, by which your knees tend to bend or give way, when you stand and you could find it tough to get up as well. 

5. Foot drop: This occurs when you are not able to curve your ankles enough, to walk on your heels.

How To Fix Low Back Pain & Sciatica

Lower back pain, sciatica, and piriformis syndrome are all extremely painful and it seems as though many people have the symptoms related to these conditions, but the methods of relief are all very different.

Robin A. McKenzie was a PT and a specialist in reducing the pain associated with disc issues. The conditions often result in a pain that radiates from the glutes down to the toes and all throughout the leg. The sensation is a tingling or numbing pain that hurts whether you are sitting, standing, walking or even lying down.

The exercise shown in this video is known as the McKenzie press up and has helped to alleviate the pain I had and took the peripheral pain and centralized it to my mid to lower back which is a GOOD SIGN!

When you're suffering with sciatic pain, you may feel pain around the back of your legs, your calves, around your thighs. However, the injury is actually on your lower back, on your lumbar spine. So, focus on exercises that strengthen blood flow around that area.

In this 4 minute video, I'm going to give tips on how to get rid of sciatic pain.

So one of the two tips is that you must avoid forward falling. Next, avoid savasana when you have sciatica. You could practice savasana facing down, though. Also, pay attention to how you transition from sitting to standing throughout the day. You must make sure you're bending your knees while lifting something up in order to support your lower back.

Incorporating yoga in your daily routine will help you strengthen your lower back.
